There’s no place to start like the beginning. So here it is. Increasingly, over the past few months (if not years) I’ve been visualizing, planning, and hoping to build to healthcare center that focuses on more than just the manual therapy services that I have offered out of my clinic Aspect Health. I want to focus on educating people to help themselves because I firmly believe that you can do far better for you, than I or any other practitioner can do to you.
So here is my vision…
Approximately 70% of all premature deaths are caused by preventable illness. Our medical system is crippling under the burden of taking care of people, after they’ve failed to take care of themselves. My position is that for most people, this happens not for lack of trying, but instead for lack of understanding. We are bombarded with misinformation from every direction, shared by both those who are misinformed themselves and/or those who are marketing and selling snake oil for the sake of self-gain at the expense of your and the rest of society’s health.
If as a society we better understood how our bodies worked, how the foods we eat and the activities we do cause physical adaptions for better or for worse, we would readily take better care of ourselves so that we might live longer and healthier with the ability to function more independently. A life expectancy of 80 to 100 years old is only a good thing if you maintain the ability to function independently for just as long.
Through this project I aim to help answer the question of what healthy living is and how simple it really can be, with evidence-based, scientifically solid information. I aim to educate individuals and the public through offering comprehensive training, tools and coaching in all areas of fitness, nutrition and self-care. Through this blog, I plan to offer snippets of health information in the forms of articles categorized as Fitness, Nutrition, Mindset or Body Science, while I record my own personal learning and growth journey here as well, through entries like this one that will be categorized as Chrystal’s Journal. Those who know me, know I’m forever learning. Here I intend to share what I already know, what I learn, what I think I know, and when I stand corrected.
Our health status today is for the most part a direct consequence of our fitness and food activities from yesterday, and our health status as we age further will be a direct consequence of the actions we take today. I am far from a perfect person, but I have grit and I struggle somewhat successfully to be a positive example of healthy living. I want to help lead you towards taking the right actions for you, too.
